World Correspondence Chess Championship - Candidates Sections

The Candidates (CT) of the World Correspondence Chess Championship are regularly started tournament sections where entries are continually accepted. The WCCC CT tournaments falls under the responsibility and organization of the ICCF Title Tournaments Commissioner, Mr. Marco Caressa (mcaressa@iccf.com), to whom the entries are sent by the National Federations. Players may also register via Direct Entry.
 
Games played in these events are rated for the ICCF rating list.
 
Those players that fulfil some of the following requirements are entitled to start a WCCC CT section:
 
The following criteria will be used to accept entries to any WCCC stage:
          a)    as from 01.01.2006, all entries according to 2006 rules.
          b)    other entries according to 2005 rules, when these are according to qualifications obtained by winners (or runners up) of tournaments started up to 31.12.2005 (“acquired rights”).
 
1.3.1 The following will be entitled to enter the Candidates' Tournament:
          (a)   The participants of one of the previous or running Finals who scored at least 50% of the possible points,
          (b)   The participants in the previous or running Candidates' Tournaments (3/4-Finals) who scored at least 60% of the possible points but did not qualify for the Final,
          (c)   The top two players in every Semi-Final group.
          (d)   The two top finishers from the acknowledged Zonal Championships of the tournament Category VII to IX with 13 or less players (with 14 or more players: top three); the third and fourth placed players from the acknowledged Zonal Championships of tournament Category X and above with 13 or less players (with 14 or more players: places fourth and fifth),
          (e)   The first and second placed players in a Final of the World Cup Tournament, when said Final is of Category 7 or above.
          (f)   All previous World Correspondence Chess Champions,
          (g)   The holders of the Senior International Master Title with ratings above 2525,
          (h)   The holders of the Grandmaster Title with ratings above 2475,
          (i)    Those players who have a fixed rating of 2600 and above in the most recent rating list prior to the start date of the particular section of the Candidates' Tournament.
 
1.3.2 Normally, the Candidates' Tournament sections will consist of 13 participants.
 
Note: Please be advised that preparing the proper pairings for this event takes a lot of time and effort.  No player will know who their opponents are until the pairing list is distributed prior to the event.  Should a player receive the pairing list, yet withdraw from the event before the start of the tournament without a valid reason, the player may be subject to an ICCF suspension for a minimum of six-months.  This suspension would include all events currently being played by the player.  This does not overrule normal withdrawal procedures as specified in ICCF rules.
