WORLD CORRESPONDENCE CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2010 CYCLE

ANNOUNCEMENT OF CANDIDATES' TOURNAMENT

30th World Correspondence Chess Championship

               June 20th 2010

Dear chessfriends,

As approved by the 2009 ICCF Congress, all Candidates' Tournament Sections of the World Correspondence Chess Championship shall start annually and also simultaneously on the same day.

I can now advise that entries, in accordance with the ICCF Tournament Rules valid as from 1.1.2010, may now be submitted. I can also advise that the closing date for entries shall be  31 July 2010 and that the start date shall be 10 September  2010

I should remind players of the changes to the Rules adopted at the 2009 ICCF Congress whereby all qualifications for CT achieved in 2009 or earlier are required to be applied not later than 30th June 2010 in order to be utilised in either 2010 or 2011. Where possible, players‘ preferences for the use of such qualifications will be observed. Additionally, whilst normally the Candidates' Tournament sections will consist of 13 participants, at the discretion of the Title Tournaments Commissioner, the number of players may be increased to 15 or 17. Also, whilst usually  4 new Candidates’ Tournament sections will be started each year, during 2010 and 2011, conditional upon the number of entrants, this number may increase to 5, each with up to 17 players. In the unlikely event that the provision of these additional places in the Candidates Tournaments will be found to be insufficient to meet the demand then the Title Tournament Commissioner may determine that only those finishing in 1st place in this cycle of Candidates Tournaments will be guaranteed places in subsequent World Championship Finals.

In the event that the total number of qualified entrants is not a direct multiple of 13 (or 15, or 17) , those players who have submitted entries under Rule 1.3.1.h and who have the lowest ICCF ELO ratings amongst all the entrants may, at the discretion of the Title Tournaments Commissioner,  be refused entry to the Candidates‘ Tournament.

For qualifications according to point 1.3.1.h, rating numbers will be taken from the ICCF Rating List as at July 1st 2010 and / or from the current FIDE Rating List.

Multiple entries from players with more than one qualification will be accepted only if there are sufficient available places.

All entries must include the following:

Name of the player, ICCF ID number, Address (email and/or postal where relevant), Country Code.

It is also mandatory that the qualification right under Tournament Rules 1.3 should be specified for each entry!

The ICCF Executive Board asks that all ICCF Delegates ensure that this important information is made available in all national CC magazines and websites. It is the responsibilty of Delegates to ensure that all players are made aware of these arrangements!

Any questions and/or requests for clarification  should be directed to the ICCF Title Tournaments Commissioner, Marco Caressa mcaressa@iccf.com.
