DE5A Tournament: Semifinales Results and Finale Annoucement

Thursday, February 27, 2014: Outcome of the 7 semifinal groups and rules governing the Finale about to start

Launched by an Official Announcement on November 24th, 2010,  the Direct Entry 5th Webserver Anniversary Tournament (DE5A) was meant to celebrate the first 5 years of the Direct Entry (DE) programme, which started on April 5th, 2006.
 
SEMIFINALE STAGE RESULTS
 
Gathering 485 players from 50 countries at its Preliminary Stage, the event is now coming to its final stage. The semifinale stage was expected to be played from October 1st, 2012 to March 31, 2014 (playing period 18 months). Even though some games are still on-going and might even be so by the end of March, the results of the 7 semifinal groups cannot be changed now.

FINALE ANNOUCEMENT
 
The Finale is opened to the 1st and 2nd places of the semifinale groups.
 
The Finale might be completed by the best 3rd places in order to have a 15-player tournament. According to the current rating of the potential entrants, the Finale should be classified into category 8, with title norms possible.
 
Qualified players will be contacted by TO Jean-Christophe Chazalette by e-mail. TO will wait formal consents from players until March 10th, 2014 included.
 
As declared in the 2010 Official Announcement, the Finale will be directed by Dr. Michael Millstone, SIM, IA, current ICCF General Secretary and former Direct Entry Commissioner.
 
2.    Finale Planning:
 
The Finale will start on April 5th, 2014 and end on April 5th, 2016 (playing period 24 months), date of the 10th anniversary of the Direct Entry programme.
 
3.    Time Control
 
Time control will be set at 10 moves/30 days with conditional moves available.
 
4.    Qualifications
 
Tie breaking with the default Baumbach rule.
 
Unfinished games by April 5th, 2016 will be called in for adjudication. The adjudicator’s decision is to be final, 
without appeal.
 
5.    Prizes
 
As provided in the Tournament rules, the DE5A Winner will be awarded the DE 5th Anniversary Tournament trophy, plus 450 € payable through Paypal (250 € - the equivalent of 7 % of the entry fees collected for the event - and another 200,00 € granted by the ICCF)
 
The Second place will be paid 330 € through Paypal (180 €  - the equivalent of 5 % of the fees collected for the event - and another 150,00 € granted by the ICCF).
 
The Third place will paid 220 € through Paypal (120 € - the equivalent of 3 % of the fees collected for the event - and another 100,00 € granted by the ICCF).
 
The DE5A Trophy will be awarded at the 2016 ICCF Congress.
